Fall is finally HERE. Our favorite season in the Rockies! Here are four spots that will point you in the right direction towards those vivid yellows, oranges, and reds this September and October. If you're new to Colorado or just looking for different places to explore, this list is for you.
1. Kenosha Pass
Kenosha Pass is off of HWY 285 just about an hour west of Denver and it’s one of the most crowded fall hikes for good reason! The trail offers stunning foliage, spectacular long range views, and amazing aspen photo opportunities. Plus, because this is part of the 500 mile Colorado Trail, you can hike as little or as much as you want! Be sure to go early – the parking lot at the trailhead fills up fast!
2. Kebler Pass & Ohio Pass
Crested Butte calls itself the “last great ski town”, but they also boast some of the best fall colors in Colorado. Home to the state’s largest aspen grove, seas of yellow are easy to find. World-class mountain biking and ample hiking trails make this place a great destination to spend the weekend! Must do's: driving Kebler Pass & Ohio Pass, biking the Dyke Trail, and hiking the Three Lakes Loop Trail!
3. Aspen

The name says it all. The required drive over Independence Pass on your way into town provides a taste for what’s to come. Cruising up Castle Creek Road and photographing the shimmering golden leaves at Maroon Bells in the fall is a MUST. Go before 8am to bypass the shuttle bus and be sure to hike the extra 2 miles up to Crater Lake!
4. Boreas Pass
Boreas Pass, heavily used during the gold rush, connects the historic town of Como to Breckenridge. The 22 mile aspen tree-lined road provides panoramic views of the Blue River Valley and Ten-mile Range, making this one of the best scenic drives in Summit County! Warning: you may not want to leave, but that's ok! Dispersed campsites are fairly easy to find on both sides of the pass!
